Hey guys

I have a guy whom I'm going to trade a desktop for his laptop. The guy seems pretty straight, and has by all means been patient. Problem I'm having is that I can't seem to figure out a good way to trade systems where we both feel comfortable on cross shipping our computers. This guys been pretty cool about waiting for the desktop to be finished building, and I'm pretty much sold on the laptop he wants to trade for my gaming rig. Anyone have any good ideas on how we an amicably and safely make this trade? He lives in Texas and I live in Florida.

Look into an ESCROW service or a third party that you both can trust.

Basically, the buyer sends payment to a third party, that party notifies the seller, and then the seller ships out the item to the buyer. Once the buyer recieves the product, the third party sends the money to the seller.

Confusing, and adds a couple other steps, but it takes the burden off of who should ship first.

Not a bad proposition....except this is a trade of systems. Are you suggesting we should ship our systems to a third party who then would ship them to us?

Pretty much. Is the trade from this board? If so I know that there are some very trustworthy guys that would probably be happy to work as an escrow service. Ulfwald would be one guy that I would talk to about it. He's in Georgia, so he's not really that far out of the way.

There's really three things to keep in mind with this method of trade -

1) Extra time
2) extra $$ for shipments
3) You both have to trust the third party

The third party can also test the products to make sure that they work before shipping them out to the rightful parties.

If you both are concerned about the saftey of the trade, then an escrow-like service is the way to go. Just keep in mind that you have to double your shipping fees, as well as giving the escrow party a small commission in return.
