ok .. so i've been using an old budget case that i got off dabs for ages but have recently though about swapping over to an MATX motherboard. and so i've decided its time i get myself a better case
my main problem here though is that i've got a Thermalright ultra 120 extreme cpu cooler.

does anyone know of any Matx cases that would be able to fit my TRUE 120 and a HD4870X2 ?

You almost need a maxi-mid case or larger to fit a TRUE. You'll need to run something the size of the Arctic Cooling Freezer Pros or the OCZ Vendetta, etc at the most for an mATX box. The Silverstone SUG0 03 or 04 could handle the vid card(s). One generally chooses one's HSF after deciding on the case, not vice versa... Consider the Ultra m998 case.

TRUE fits in my Antec Mini P180, but just barely. I'm sure it'll fit your HD4870X2 as well, though I'm betting you were looking into a smaller case than the Mini P180 if you're looking to switch to mATX.

Also remember that mATX motherboards fit in full ATX cases...which you'll probably have to get.

I have the P150 (same as the Antec Solo) with a TRUE, basically a maxi-mid as Zepper described. It's wide.

Why would you want to cram all that heat into a micro enclosure. Worse is if you're actually trying to OC in a little case. If you have a TRUE, you're OCing and need to get a bigger case. If you're not OCing, junk the TRUE and get something more reasonable and closer to the stock cooler, and you'll be able to fit in a small case.

im not oc'ing heavily. would just be taking my q6600 up to around 3.2 / 3.4 ghz

so really after a case that can just keep all my parts together and in a small case ideally (i'll be taking it through airport so smaller = more clothes room).

currently looking at getting the DFI lanparty jr motherboard and possible the NZXT rogue case unless anyone has better suggestions.

rogue weighs a ton and i had my hopes up when i saw the thermaltake lanbox but they had to go and stick the psu over the motherboard :<
