Well, he is not totally incorrect. If someone sees an Indian dude with a Toyota or Honda, they probably will think "typical cheapskate Indian" and likewise with the luxury cars, "they got loads of money rolling in". Is it perhaps silly? Yes. But are other people judgmental idiots(especially those who hypocritically pat themselves for being "non-judgemental" when excusing the immoral folk of the world)? Yes they are. Even I am deliberately willing to hate on the Japanese and once I have a decent income, never purchase one ever again because of shit ergonomics.
What does it matter what other people think? You pick the best car you can afford that fits your needs, seems easy enough. For me the best auto maker is going to be Japanese, specifically Toyota. They're the most reliable for the money, and they fit me well. I will get a Lexus soon, and I couldn't give the faintest care in the world what other people think about a young person getting a luxury vehicle like that.
I also don't understand what would make him a cheapskate in a Honda or Toyota, when both cost a lot more in the used market than a Chevy.
