I don't know ANYTHING about art.

But I just moved into a new house, and I bought a lotta cool IKEA furniture for my bedroom. So now I need to put some stuff on the walls.

Nothing too generic. I want something(s) that is unique.

Here is my furniture if that helps :

Chest

Wardrobe

Bed

Entertainment Center

And my walls are painted in sort of a light brown...khaki color.

The first thing you need to do is paint your walls. If you want your house to look good, you'll drop the white paint (if your walls are that color). What color is your carpet and what colors do you like? IMHO, a nice earthtone tan or green would look GREAT with that furniture.

I painted a fireplace on the wall in my friend's apt.

They pinned stockings to the mantle last week. Fun stuff.

I have dark brown hard-wood floors.

I have This Rug on the floor from the foot of the bed to the front of the entertainment center.

Two ideas:

1. Go to the nearest art museum. Make notes of things you like. Order prints and have them framed.

2. Start going to art galleries and buying stuff you like. More expensive than option #1 but original works of art are an investment of sorts.

Go to www.art.com. Cruise around that website and see if there is anything you like. I personally like nature photography. A lot of people have his work, but maybe something like Ansel Adams.

Shooting for a guest spot on Queer Eye For The Straight Guy? ;)

Polm: May I suggest some fine art masterpieces like a painting of Elvis on velvet or a painting of dogs playing poker?

:D

It's hard to go wrong with Dali. I've got "Lincoln in Dalivision" hanging in my room now.

Maybe you could buy some Oriental scrolls/wall hanging and fans to give it an oriental feel? Paper lamps, etc. Let us know what you decide to do and how it turns out, have fun! :)

I second. Great idea - I've visited the Salvidor Dali museum in St. Petersburg FL, and it was truly one of the best experiences of my life. I need pictures of your room to further my evaluation :p

Pay for shipping and I'll draw some Brian Fields original art works. I'll even let you choose the subject :)
