I just purchased a new 1700+ from newegg and was extremely happy to get a dlt3c jihub 312 upmw rather than an A. However, when I looked at my chip's core, there is an odd 3mmx3mm perfectly square area on the die that has some green coloration on it. The resolution of my 2 mp digicam can't truly do it justice, but the patch is slightly rougher than the surrounding core and has fine, spider web like green coloration in it, although the margins are the same color as the rest of the core, albeit without as much of a shine or sparkle. TThe margins are way too perfectly square for this to be some inadvertant damage. Since the area was rougher than surrounding, I thought that possibly some of the green crap from the surrounding wafer got on the core, but it was not removable w isopropyl alcohol and again, that still wouldn't expalin the crisp margins of the area. Is this normal and am I just worried about nothing, or is there a problem with this chip? I don't want to install it, have a problem, and then not be able to RMA it if I get blamed for the damage.
