I will be selling my Abit Th7 II, P4 1.8a @ 2.29ghz, and 512mb of Pc800 @pc1000 to a friend in the first week of Dec. What you guys suggest me replacing it with? Of course, I want something that performance better then my current combo.

Thanks

Thanks for the quick response.

I am thinking granite bay too. Either the Asus or Gigabyte board.
Are 2x 256mb Samsung Pc2700 ok for me or should I get better rams?

Ok, I just read the review on the granite bay. I am a little confused. They are talking about the boards only run 1:1 ratio.
I thought if the agp/pci has lock feature it really don't matter you need other dividers. Can someone enlighten me? I been using rdram ram for couple years now and not too familiar with DDR.

2x256samsung pc2700 should be good
after all you are guaranteed with the ram for at least 166mhz

however one thing im not sure about, the cpu:ram ratios
i dont know 100% if the ratio will just dissapear after a certain fsb, or will it stay no matter what fsb you are at

the reason why i bring this up, is because it will determine whether you should invest in some higher class ram (pc3000 or higher)
if say cpu is 166fsb and there is a 4:5 ratio, you can run the ram at 207.5mhz (415ddr) which couple with dual channel ddr would be awesome to say the least

maybe someone with a granite bay can answer that (somebody on these boards had one for testing and i believe he can, look in in the motherboard forum for the granite bay sticky)

Good day. I agree with the above recommendations. Granite Bay or SiS 655 motherboard. P4 2.66GHz or you could get a 2.4B with guaranteed C1 stepping from Atacom. Two 256MB sticks of DDR333 SDRAM. Then overclock it to 3.1-3.2GHz.

Thanks guys. I just noticed the Granite bay motherboards (Asus at least) will be in retailers at 11/30/02. Guess I will wait it out one more week. 🙂
