Hi All!

I need some advice - I recently bought a Dell Inspiron 600M with the extended battery but still think it's a little too heavy for lugging around with me everyday (along with work related books, etc). I'm really tempted towards the 700M but am vary about the screen size since I spend 10-14 hours a day looking at the screen (being a coder).

What would you all advise -

600M w/ extended battery & 14.1" SXGA
OR
700m w/extended battery & 12.X" WXGA (?)

I recently used the 25% coupon on Dell SB and got the following configuration for the 600M
- 1.6 Ghz
- 14.1" SXGA (1400 X ...)
- 64MB Video
- 4X DVD Writer
- 512MB 2 Dimms
- Extended battery
- 2 year Next Business Day warranty

All for $1450 (minus a $110 rebate = $1340).

Just FYI - it's an awesome machine. Feels more solid than my current C840 and is much ligher ......... but its still a little bit too heavy for daily lugging around.

well i just got the 700m and close to returning it.

pros
small
screen is beautiful. like sony's xbrite

cons
for some people(screen is too small) i needed to make fonts large
small keys
battery sticks out, esp. 8cel battery looks really funky
for its small size,, its should be lighter
ugly white out lookin trims

i'm 50/50 on returning this laptop. i'm checking out an ibm t23 and if i like that. i'll prob. be returning my 700m. which is too bad b/c the screen really makes that laptop seem like it's worth it. hope that helps

I have a 700m w/ 8 cell (extended) battery, and it weighs 4.95 lbs

The 600m specs show it to weigh 5.3 lbs. w/ a cdrom module. The 4cell battery weighs .5 lbs. and the 6 cell weighs .7 lb., so you are looking at roughly 1 lb. difference between the 600m & 700m w/ a battery. If I were a coder I would prefer a larger screen.

Thanks John.

I think I'm going to stick with 600m ..... because of the screen size.

Just loose out on the WOW factor that the 700m would have given .... :-|

And I'll probably lug the 600m without the battery for my daily needs ....... Oh well. I wish Dell had a 13.3" ultra portable :-D

Thanks,
S
