need advice about adding some ram

Hi,
I use an INTEL D975XBX2 board with E6600 CPU and 2X1GB 800Mhz
I overclocked the CPU to 3.06Ghz (9X341FSB) and it's enough at the moment.
my question is: I have 2X512MB DDR2 667MHZ and I want to add it to my system,
do you think it's a good idea? can I still keep my overclock setting with this Ram ?

No. You'll need the exact same ram if you plan to run 4 sticks overclocked. I would leave it alone. Sell the extra sticks or save them for another build.

That's not true! 3GB works well. All you'll have to do is move one of your sticks over a slot, so you'll have 1.5 GB per channel, and you'll even be able to maintain dual-channel.

Do you mean to just put the 2X512MB sticks in the free slots ? or to replace one of them with the 1X1Gb dimm ?

I'd verify that the voltage requirements for both sets are similar, and assuming they are within .1 v go ahead and try adding the two new sticks. Assuming you're in dual channel mode already you should be able to pop in the other 2 x DDR2 - 667 sticks into the open slots and with a 341 FSB/ 2x memory multiplier boot right up without changing BIOS settings. If you do have problems, check the SPD settings on the new sticks and adjust your current timing configuration if necessary, then boot from a Memtest CD and make sure it tests clean before booting into the O/S. It might also take a little voltage bump to the northbridge since the extra RAM will push the memory controller harder. If you aren't already actively cooling the northbridge I'd strongly advise it since you're pushing beyond a 333 mhz FSB.

I'd still recommend using the exact same memory sticks if overclocking. You've already got 2 gigs of memory in 2 slots, which is the most stable configuration you can use. You'd have to be damn lucky to get any stability mixing different brands and sizes of memory.

thanks for all your answers, I managed to install the additional memory and even to get the FSB to 350 , the only thing I've changed is the memory timing from 4-4-4-8 to 5-4-4-10

wrong...

I use 2GB of Crucial 10th Anniversary DDR2-667 and 2GB of G.Skill HZ DDR2-800. Both sets running on 2.1v DDR2-800 speed at 4-4-4-12.

You only need to be sure your slower memory will run the speed and voltage/timings you are attempting. Usually making sure each set has the same or similar ICs is all it takes.

G.Skill is in channel A and Crucial is in channel B. if the slots were numbered 1,2,3,4 my g.skill is in 1 and 3 and crucial in 2 and 4.
