Need advice! 1gig 2-2-2-5 vs 2gig 3-8-4-4 (DDR)

This machine will mainly be used for gaming. These are DDR PC3200 in dual channel format.

Problem is price. I'm looking at:

What kind of system is this going in?

Did you check out the post about how little really fast memory timing affects performance with A64?

I'd say get a gig of value ram and spend the extra money on an uber-graphics card if you're going an A64 route.

Rig is A64 and my card is a 6800GT (410/1100). Probably wont change either.

Gaming == little need for 2GB

And you can get 1024MB modules that run at 2.5 and 2.0 timings easily

The faster timings won't make much difference. Although 1gig is 'enough' right now, a few games down the road, the extra ram may be more useful to you.

Why not? It's only like ~3% boost. You'll get it back later.

If you don't intend to upgrade in the next year, get 2 GB now. If you do intend to, or are willing to upgrade in the next year, get the 1 GB now.
