Need additional assistance please

Upon bootup I noticed this strange line ;

C: rem TShoot: SET BLASTER = A220 I7 D3 T4

So I run a sysedit and low and behold it's in my Autoexecbat.

I am running windows 98se, have never had a soundblaster card in my machine.

Could this be a trojan ?

Your help is greatly appreciated :)

Well, first off, it's "rem'd out" (a remark) so it has no effect on the system.

"Blaster" is a windows generic term at this point. There are lots of non-Creative Labs sound boards that emulate the CL product, so even though you didn't have a SoundBlaster specifcally, the system thinks (or at least thought at some point) that you did. To Windows, if it looks like a Sound Blaster...it's a Sound Blaster.

The parameters are A= Address, I=Interrupt, D=DMA, .... I can't remember "T" it's been a long time.

FWIW

T: Card Type (decimal):

1 - Sound Blaster 1.5
2 - Sound Blaster Pro I
3 - Sound Blaster 2.0
4 - Sound Blaster Pro II
6 - Sound Blaster 16/AWE 32/32/64

Need asistance once again people.
Since seeing this line in my Autoexecbat I started paying attention to all the port attacks I have been getting with ZoneAlarm.
I am hooked up to cable (Optimum Online), on average I get hit about 300 times a day.
Most of the probing is coming from R.I.P.E., (a European I.S.P ? )
Sometimes it gets so bad that it actually slows down my online browsing.

Should I be worried ?
Would a Lynksys router offer me more protection ?
Should I worry about Trojans, bugs or worms ?

Hey Roger, I can't help you :(, but I bet if you asked this over in networking you'd get a quick answer :).

With ZoneAlarm running and blocking the port attacks you worries can be reduced. Yes the use of a router will provide more protection in that it is a hardware firewall in itself. I'm running the linksys router myself and when anyone tries to scan my IP (when I have all ports closed), the IP can not be resolved. The nice thing about the Linksys routers is that the newer firmware can be coupled with ZoneAlarm Pro for additional protection.

Have you tried running an online port scan recently to see what ports are open on your computer?
