Need adapter to plug USB keyboard into PS/2 port.

I have a numberpad keyboard that's USB and I'd like to plug it into a PS/2 socket.
I used a mouse USB>PS/2 adapter but the bios failed to boot.

You can't do that, the Keyboard / Numbpad needs to support PS/2 w/ the adaptor (it requires hardware support, IE another chip inside the keyboard) to function properly. Unless you have a USB to PS/2 Converter, not just an adaptor your out of luck.

just go steal one of those that come with mice........the little small usb to ps2 converters....that will work

If you read the OP you'd see that's what I did. The bios reported "no keyboard present".

When you say "small plug adapter" are you saying you used a "mouse" adapter? As Varun's link points out, there are adapters for EACH the USB mouse and keyboard.

Even though the PS/2 sockets for the kbd and mse are the same, the PINOUTS are NOT... PS/2 to USB adapters may be brand specific. I think the ones you see for sale around are just some of those Infinite profit items (adapters left over from sold kbds/mses) anything divided by 0 equals infinity.

Weird the Logitech USB keyboards works with PS/2 with just a small plug adaptor

It was designed that way. It costs extra to support both standards. many (most?) usb kbs are usb only, and need a usb to ps/2 converter, not just one of those adapters.

Mice are the same way, some support usb and ps/2 with just the plug adapter. Others dont and youll need a converter.

Look on the bottom of the mouse or kb, it will usually tell you. if it doesnt specifically say UBS-PS/2 youll probably need the converter, not just the adapter. And they are different, usually theres a mouse or kb icon on the adapter itself.

USB and PS/2 are different
you cannot just use a USB-PS/2 adapter and convert your USB device to PS/2
Unless the device IC controller chip support both USB and PS/2.

if you have a PS/2 mouse and you wanted to convert it to be able to use on USB port.
then you will need a PS/2-USB converter with a built in chip in the cables. it will actually
convert the PS/2 code to USB.

I have been looking for a USB TO PS2 keyboard converting thing forever. I tried some, none of them works. I thought it should be as easy as a USB/Ps2 mouse converter.
