Can anyone tell me what size the holes are so I know which screws to mount my Alpha8045 heatsink with. Thanks.

They're the small-sized holes, so you'll want to use the flat washers against the board. What kind of CPU and 80mm fan did you pick?

XP 2100 and Delta 68cfm (the one that is gonna sound like a lawn mower). Just to make sure but this fan will work with a 3pin connection right? Somewhere I heard it might need a 4 pin connect which I dont know if my mobo supports(A7V333)

RED ALERT :Q Any fan that powerful will surely overload your motherboard headers, better not plug it into a 3-pin header. If you don't see any other guideline in the mobo's manual, assume a max of 2 watts per header. That fan pulls 7W, enough to blow two headers at a time on most boards.

I would suggest a Vantec Tornado, which is powered safely from a 4-pin plug but has a RPM lead that you can safely plug into the motherboard's 3-pin header to signal RPM (although you'd notice if it failed, unless you are deaf). The Tornado moves even more air too: check the specs on THIS one :D By the way, the 4-pin plug is the type a hard drive or CD-ROM drive uses. I would plug this fan into its own separate lead directly from your PSU so it doesn't introduce electrical noise directly into the same branch as, say, your hard drive.

Isn't the Vantec Tornado just a fan? What do we do about a heatsink for the A7V333? I just ordered an Alpha Pal8045, a Delta 80mm fan, and an Asus A7V333, and I'm wondering if it's all going to work together, or if I'll have problems.

What would you suggest, mechBgon?

Edit: Nevermind, I should have read all of the posts in the beginning. I understand now - I will check into using this fan on this motherboard, etc. I have a 400w power supply though, if that will help the power situation.

Welcome to the Forums nlh :) The 8045 fits great on my A7V333, and with the Delta fan it should cool like crazy :D If you're looking for A7V333 info in general, onelin0 and I put up as much info as we could right here. If the thread got archived and that link doesn't work anymore, then try this one. Among other things, I put up tips on how to get decent results with Asus MyLogo.

Thanks for the welcome. :D

This will be my first time building a computer, and I've done a lot of research into which parts to get. However, I keep reading up on new things, and I was worried I'd have compatibilty issues with such a huge fan - with the headers, like you said. I ordered a 3 to 4 pin adapter just in case, so I think I'll be alright there. I'm wondering if I need more cooling in my case besides the fan, as I've read that good case cooling is nearly necessary.

I'm excited to build, but I'd like to do it right. I'll go read the info thread you guys have posted.

Thanks again :D

At least one 80mm exhaust fan on the rear panel would be a good idea.

I don't mean to put down your choice of cases, but a good-quality 400W power supply is about $85. I'm wondering how good the PSU can be when the 400W PSU and case cost $26... :Q

I was thinking about that. I'm thinking I may buy another Power Supply.

I'm not sure which one - are Antec's Power Supplies good?

Thanks again for all the help.

Antec, Enermax and Sparkle have good reputations. I haven't heard any bad reports about Enhance either, and they run a bit less money and had several models on AMD's recommended list (before AMD took the list down).

I see.

I know someone else who has an Enermax, and they like it. I may put an order in for one now.

I am also building my brother's computer - he will be using an A7M266 and a Thermalright heatsink - should I also buy him a new power supply?

Thanks again. I keep learning. :D
