I have a budget of $1500 for a new laptop.

There's no IT here, I will be solely responsible for it. Two other SAs I will be working with got Sony Vaio VGN-FW370J.

I will be doing demos on this laptop, so the only requirements for the laptop are:
- have a VGA out to be compatible with most projectors out there
- have a big screen if there are no projectors available
- don't weigh a ton

Anything that is comparable to this Vaio?

Thanks!

Here is a newer comparable version: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16834117939 - also at Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Sony-VGN...ef=dp_cp_ob_pc_title_1

IF you want to go BIG with the screen go for: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16834117886 - 8.8lbs! - 1.9 more than the other Vaio.

18.4" screen... wow. That would be an overkill :) They won't let me in on a plane with a hand carry like that!

Thanks for the newer model suggestion. I think I'll get that from NewEgg.

Get a netbook, and use the savings to get your own projector for presentations, so you have it in every demo you present. I would also use the excess to maybe get a SSD upgrade for faster boot time and less setup time, and a nice case for the projector that you can just put the netbook in as well. Battery life will be longer than a regular notebook if you throw a six cell in there.

My suggestion would be Acer AO751h for starters. The higher end models even have bluetooth if you use accessories to aid you in presenting.

That's a great idea!
I hate fumbling with sucky projectors, or sometimes they don't even have one!

Perhaps not a netbook (need a full-size keyboard), but a decent laptop and a projector is definitely doable.

Thanks!

You can look into the Dell line of laptops. Pretty rugged and decent performance. Just get it with largest hard drive and max RAM
Also some models can be down graded to XP Pro (not all) and it depends on what OS your applications require or what your IT
department specs for connecting to the network.
