Friend has an AGP slot (old dell), and wants to upgrade his vid card, he's been using the MX series for the past year.

I'm looking into the X800GT or the 6600GT, they fall under his price range of $150-200 and AGP, which would give him better performance in WoW?

Or is there something better?

Well, it looks like the x800GT is almost the same performance-wise to the 6600GT (according to Anandtech's article on the x800GT)... so I'd guess 6600GT since it's cheaper. I'd say go for a 6800GS AGP once it comes out if you can hold on for a few more weeks... should be about 200 and is double the speed of the 6600GT. I'm not sure about the Connect3D x800GTOs, can someone verify if the AGP version unlocks well?

I believe they are coming out with a 6800GS version on AGP? If that's so wait for it.

If you're just looking for medium settings, a cheap 6600GT will do. You can probably get one for around $125 at the FS/FT forums here ($120, $125 w/ lots of games, $119, $130), or new for like $150 at NewEgg.

If you want max, the 6600GT might cut it as well, but as others above have said I would get a better card - if the 6800GS does in fact come out in AGP form that's a great choice. It would be about the same as my 6800GT, which runs WoW perfectly at maxed out settings.

6800GS or X800GTO, I would get the GTO since they overclock VERY well and some of them can unlock to a X850XT (the ^2 can and only some connect3D)

Is the 6800GS = X800XL?

My X800xl + 2GB ram I'm running WoW with everything maxed out, even AA/AF at 1280x960 and I am getting 0 lag, even in Ironforge and I play on bleeding hallow....

anandtech has a perfect video card review especially for wow.

Anandtech WOW Performance guide

Suprisingly in WOW, a 6600gt performs very similar to x800xl when no AA is used. Like 1280x768, x800xl 59fps, 6600gt 58.9fps. But in other games a x800xl would easily beat a 6600gt.

If your friend just wants to play WOW a 6600gt is enough. If he wants to play other games like BF2 or COD2 get a x800xl or 6800gt.

Newegg sells the PNY 6600GT for $ 139, and you can get a MSI one for $ 146 (after M-I Rebate)... It has a good and silent cooler and an impressive bundle too... The 6600GT may not be a powerhouse anymore, but it is still quite powerful... In combination with a decent CPU and enough RAM, there are plenty of games that can still be played at high settings...

I was completely surprised the 6600GT in my HTPC ran WoW @ 1600X1200 with everything turned up with any issue. WoW is not a terribly intensive game apparently.
