Need a tablet replacement

So I had a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 for the last 2 years. last year on a trip overseas, it fell and the screen cracked. I replaced the screen with an oem screen from China. Since then it works fine but intermittently the touchscreen would stop responding. I am looking for an android tablet that is similar in screen size and weight and preferably with the latest android version. Which should I get?
 
Do you have a budget? There aren't that many KitKat 10" tablets. The high-end Samsungs (Tab Pro 10.1, Note 10.1 2014) are pretty great but may be more than you want to spend.
 
I want to stay under 300. I bought the ipad air but returned it since it felt like too much for what I used it for(nook + comixology + browsing + netflix)
