I recommend Klipsch too. I have a 12" Klipsch for 6 yrs now (see my sig). Rock solid reliability and sound quality. But there are other good brands, like velodyne, Hsu research, etc. You'll need at least a 10" to get good bass.

It costs a bit of money though, but its quality is simply amazing.

They are pretty cool. Get 2 and you can almost match an SVS B4+.

i think for the OPs application of the sub the B4+ is just a tad overkill
they sure are ncie tho :)

I went shopping for a 12" sub this past week.

J&R had a 12" 175W Velodyne for $199. I'm not sure how good it is though.

Audiogon has some nice subs occasionally though most of it is high-end.

LOL, true enough. To be fair though, there are some really really impressive Tumult based solutions out there. I also haven't had a chance to hear the ContraBass or B-Deap, which can probably more than match the B4+.

At $300 to $500 though, if you can do DIY, that's probably the best in terms of performance.

I'd also look at the STF-2 and VTF-2 MK2:

and call SVS about the PB10-ISD:

SVS PB10-ISD

Edit because I suck at linking. :)

I'm telling you man, I'll sell you my PE 250W amp and Tempest driver for $200, split shipping ;)

But other than that, I agree, DIY if you have the time, you'll be much happier with what you get out of the money you put in.
