Blain's being mean again. :Q

Why exactly do you need a sound card? Have you tried the onboard sound and found it lacking? Are you doing serious recording or anything else? Give us some details and we can help better.

X-Fi Fatal1ty 70SB046600002-8
Holy cow, now that's a close-out sale.:Q
That's what I thought.
* He said he needed a sound card.
* He said he was a gamer.
* He said he could spend about $80.

Nothing "mean" about an X-Fi Fatal1ty combo for $75.

That's a pretty good card, at a great price. I got a "great deal" on one when they were still fairly new, but that was at $120. I'm happy enough with it, but I'd be even happier if it had cost me $75 :^D

ONBOARD SOUND FOR THE FTW! I'm serious. Onboard has come a long way from before.

If you really want to spend your money, get an ASUS Xonar series.

You know, I haven't seen Blain in a while. Where'd you go man? Speaking of that, I haven't seen BFG10K either.....nor MarcVenice.....like wtf >.>

Can someone explain to me what the difference between onboard sound and a sound card is these days? Not looking for an in depth explanation, just wondering how one would justify buying an 80 dollar sound card, when the onboard sound is pretty good already.

Some people want the best sound possible or they need all the different connectors that external soundcards provide. We do have some serious audiofiles here.

For writing music you need them to have very good drivers to offer low latency for soft synthesizers. Onboard audio often not as good for that.

onboard has come a long way.
ms has moved away from 3d gaming sound being dependent on hardware which is a good thing.
speakers tend to be the limiting factor for most gamers. do your speakers justify a nice soundcard is the question. ...lets just say if you've spent less than a couple hundred on speakers an audiophile soundcard is really wasting ur time.
