You'll get varied opinions, but I just want to stick in a vote for the ASUS A7M266 DDR board. This was my first ASUS system and it was a pleasure to build; rock solid from the first boot. Good performance using Crucial PC2100
RAM. I only just finished this last week, but so far I have had zero problems with the board. Some complain that it is not good for over clocking, but you can easily tweak up the FSB and voltage for some quick over clocking. Good quality components on the board also. It came with the extra USB ports (via a header on the MB and the included hardware) and that was handy for me. Good luck.

people are having alot of luck with the epox 8k7a (761 chipset)
a couple on this board are getting the fsb up to 190mhz

but its not just an overclocking board, its a solid board

some of the more popular boards right now
epox 8k7a
gigabyte 7dx
asus a7m266
abit kg7

but... people are really looking forward to the new nvidia nforce boards and the sis 735 boards

the nvidia looks like it will really rock. the coolest thing(imo) is that it has dual memory controllers, meaning if you use two stick of ram it increases the bandwidth (i cant remember the numbers but it seems like its more then 800mhz rambus rimms)
