Need a router... :/

Here's the scoop, I have cable internet that gets 1gb download and like 100kbs during the night and during the day of course it varies. Anyway... my roommate wants to hook up his xbox and the modem the cable guy supplied is just that, it only has one ethernet port (lameee).

I need a decent router that won't break the bank. Any suggestions?

I just bought the WNR834B from walmart ( only store in town >_< ) and came home and looked it up and it looks like it's a POS. So... i'm going to go return it before i even open the thing and buy one online.

Help???

I'd like to spend 80 or less... ( I don't need amazing wireless. I live in an apartment so range isn't an issues really either

Thanks for the fast reply. My roomie wants to just use the one I bought. ( he's VERY impatient ) ( he has hoodies and crap that he orders in magazines overnighted to him...

The WNR834B's an "interesting" option. From what you say of your needs, it'd probably do the job, and it even appears in this thread: http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1226866

There are even some successes with third-party firmware on it, but that's something you really shouldn't need to get into at this point.

There have been many reports of early failure, and the very short warranties on the refurbished ones don't raise much confidence.

I'd suggest the D-Link DIR-625 as an alternative, or going cheaper still, the Asus WL-520gU for example.

what kind of transfer rates can i see from that d-lik 625..:? Just curious. What I'm concerned about is keeping my cable internet that is connected physically ( wired) up to speed ( fast/ not limited because of a router)

If i have to mess with third party firmware on it out of the box. NO thank you lol. I don't have enough time on my hands to do that.
