Need a router that has a VPN endpoint (user connections only)

And I'd like to keep it under $200.

I would only need a couple users, 4 simultaneously at most, to connect to the router's VPN endpoint using the Windows built-in PPTP VPN client. I don't need site-to-site VPN connectivity, but it would be nice.

Here's the router's that I''ve found so far:

Netgear FVS338
Netgear FVS318
Cisco RVS4000
Cisco RV042

From what I can find, they all appear to have 266mhz processors with 32mb of RAM, but the FVS338 can somehow support 50 tunnels...

Any thoughts or experiences on any of these routers? Or other recommendations?

I've used a couple of Netgear FVS318 routers with Windows Server 2003 PPTP Client-Server VPNs with zero problems. I've also used Netgear's cheaper four-port version of this router for a couple of site-to-site VPNs. The Netgear was at the remote site as an endpoint and SBS 2003/ISA 2004 at the main site as an endpoint.

Tunnel limiitations don't mean anything unless you are using the VPN router as an endpoint.

Edit: I misread your question and somehow missed that you are intending to use the router as a VPN endpoint. I have no idea how good/bad the Netgear is in this mode. Also, my impression is you have to use Netgear's VPN client when using the Netgear as a VPN server. So I have little experience doing what you are trying to do.

Cisco/Linksys RV042 is my vote. It's cheap, reliable and can handle all that you said you need. Can terminate/establish IPsec VPN tunnels, can use pptp, etc. I've tried the FVS338 - I'd avoid it. The one that I had had lots of issues with certain things and for the price of it - RV042 beats it hands down.

Yeah, the only thing is that if he picks up a PIX it will only allow 10 inside hosts... This turned into a problem for me (on my ASA).

Didn't think it would be an issue till I added up all of the shit we have at our house...
4 iphones, 5 pc's, 4 xbox's, the list goes on... haha

Yeah I can see there being situations, although very rare, that I'd run out of room if the 501 can only do 10 hosts.

Looks like I'll go with the RV042, thanks to everyone for contributing!

crapbox pc would handle hundreds of connections and you could use it to ping/debug vpn issues.
