Well, theres always something like this...
JL Audio 8W3

It's an 8", and it would sound pretty good, but I dont know about the factory location, AND you would more then likely want an amp for it too....Radio shack cheap-o may be your best bet....

That 8" Jl is a good sub, will give you alot better low end then factory, and will get decently loud, but I wouldnt put it in braggin rights range. If ya want that, Adire is makin an 18" Brahma, sure to make the bowels loosen and fillings rattle :D

You want cheap?
I had this JL in my Explorer. It was really sweet sounding, and did a great job without bouncing me down the street.

What kind of system was Lexus using back in '92? Bose? Nice thought on the use of the Logitech sub, but it's probably set up for an 8 ohm impedence. You're probably going to have to look for something with 4 ohm impedence. Also, you could head over to Usenet (Deja.Com) and search to see what other people have replaced their subwoofers with. I'm sure on a 10-year-old vehicle, others may have experienced the same issue.

i say make your dad crap next time he gets in.Do a little work, put a stealth install in. Get either a 10W7, Brahma 10" or Digital Designs 9510, juice it with about 1000 watts and leave it turned up nice n loud for his next drive. He'll surely know you did some work for him :D

I found this little good piece of info. on Usenet:

There is only one Nak system for the car (the standard audio system for the
car is the "Lexus Premium Sound System"). If you have the Nak system then
it does indeed have a 12 inch sub. The sub size can be determined as
follows, standard 8 inch, with CD 10 inch, Nak with CD 12 inch. I recall
the front doors as being smaller, 4 inches I think, however they could have
been the standard system. You might want to talk with the parts department
rather then the service writers. I have talked to people who replaced the
speakers using the OEM amp and have said the got better quality sound then
the OEM Nak system, however your mileage may vary.

* and *

Thanks for taking the time to respond.
I did pull up my vehicle information on the Lexus website, on the basis of
the VIN#. I have also visited the local dealership. Both exercises were
frustrating as well.

The Lexus registry lists my car as having the Nak Premium with 12" sub
upgrade. All of the custom shops deny that the sub could be more than 10".
The "service adviser" at the dealership knew nothing about the specs, was
obviously disinterested in my problem, and claimed that he has no resource
to look up. He gave me a quote of $900 (without consulting any references)
to replace the drivers. That's actually pretty close; the first custom shop
quoted me the same number.

Hmm i took a look at the sub, havent taken it out yet but it says these numbers on it:

86160-50010
Ts-08502
2 (and then the horse shoe symbol)
then it says pioneer.

So does that means its 2 ohms or whatever, isnt regular like 4?

The horseshoe is indeed the Ohm sign, so you have a 2 ohm speaker. There really isnt a "regular" per se. Jl has 2 Ohm, 3 Ohm, 4 Ohm and I think 6 Ohm. You can find alot of 2 Ohm dual voice coils, most single's will be 2 or 4. Home audio is often 8 ohm.
Either way, i bet you have a 2 Ohm, no clue as to the size. I still think do the Brahma or DD with 1000 watts :D

If you got a 8ohm at 120W its 480W at 4ohms and its close to 2000W at 2Ohms.

That's how the speaker rating goes.. meaning it can operate upto that much wattage at that ohm (I believe this is right but I could be wrong).

Anyway just get a 4Ohm that can do 2Ohms and you will be fine..
