I built a system for a friend not much more then 3 months ago and the HS/F is deing on the 9600 pro. Is there any chance with of using passive cooling, something like this or this. Otherwise your recommendations are welcome...

Just run the fan at 7volts - still cools effectively & is much quieter.

Hope this helps.

What??? The fan is deing, running it at 7 volts isn't going to change anything. I need either a passive heatsink or a new fan heatsink unit.

You can also check out the vga silencer from arctic cooling at svc. Heard good things about it.

I replaced my 9500 Pro HSF with a Zalman Heatpipe. It's a lot bigger than those little heatsinks you listed, which I don't think is good enough for passive cooling.

If you're feeling like doing a bit of easy modding, you might try one of these. It works great for my Ti4200 and the fan was still working properly. :)

I think that 9600PRO don't need much cooling. I got one, and even overclocked to 500mhz it din't get warm. I bought one of those zalman heatpipes and as far as I am concern, that was a waist of my time. I think that the northbridge heatsink in your link would be just fine.

You dont need those bigass heatsinks... i have a 9600 pro too at 500MHz and it doesnt even get hot even with crappy case cooling.
