Problem: Have a few desktops that support multi monitors (2-5 displays) but I don't have the physical deskspace to support that many monitors.

So I'm looking for a remote control program (or combination of apps) that can trick XP into thinking that it has mutiple monitors hooked up and then in turn have a way to remote into them and use all of the monitors.

Is there a remote control app like VNC that can do that, or some combination of apps that can do the emulation and then a remote access program that can support the virtual monitors?

UltraVNC supports multiple monitors on either end of the connection. If one end of the connection has more desktop space than the other (more monitors, higher resolution, etc.) it simply adds scroll bars to the sides of the viewer window so you can scroll around to access the rest of the desktop on the remote machine.

But will it auto-add the additional monitors on the host end even though they aren't plugged into the machine?

That's my problem I think. I essentially have a headless desktop with two video cards sitting in it. It's got a basic card that would normally run one monitor and then a second high end Nvidia FX Quadro card that supports two additional monitors. If they are not physically connected to the machine will it actually populate the displays in the remote software?

If Windows is set up to use those displays as part of the desktop on the host, then VNC will show you the contents of all of those monitors/displays when you connect to the host machine. As long as the machine itself doesn't care if there are physical monitors attached (other than HDMI I haven't seen a system that cared), then VNC won't care either.
