Need a reliable router

Hello, I'm in the market for a new router because unfortunately, my dorm room only has one ethernet port.. for three occupants.

My price range is about $40-60.

I'm seriously considering the Asus WL-520gU http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16833320023 and the Linksys WRT54GL http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16833124190 ;however around this pricerange, linksys has many more offerings like the WRT54G2 and WRT100's.

Basically I'm looking for some advice on which one to purchase because I'm pretty torn between the choices and getting the best option for my money. This router will have 3 wireless connections, and 1 LAN.

Thanks for all the help!

I would just google reviews on any model you are considering and see what you get. Linksys is not what it used to be with consumer grade routers and I was not happy with the last one I had, a rvs4000. I had a wrt54gx which was a good router but check before you buy. I currently have a d-link dgl-4500 and even it has issues.

Get the WL-520GU then install DD-WRT on it. I myself have a WRT54GSv7 with DD-WRT and it's running flawlessly.

The WRT54GL is a good option in that price range. Its basically the old version 4 WRT54G (versions after 4 have less memory). You can easily put Tomato or DD-WRT on this router if you want.

If the Wireless is important to you get the Asus. Its Radio is better than the Linksys.

If this is for a dorm room, you had better find out if the network policy allows routers. Some may not, in that case you would want a switch instead, and register your 3-4 MACs on the net to get IPs.
