Hi everyone,

I am a web developer trying to explore what the best options for a browser emulator is. I have a pc/windows 7, and I currently have firefox 5.0, google chrome 12.0.742.122 and IE 9. I basically need an emulator in which I can check all main browsers in different versions (i.e. IE 8, 7; Chrome 11 and previous versions; Firefox 3, 2) in order to ensure that my website doesn't have any glitches. If anyone can help with reliable free online services, that would be great. I am also willing to pay, but only if the product is proven and has reviews.

Let me know if you can help!

Humm. You can't really "emulate" a browser; you need to test the real thing in order to see just what it does. We're DIYers here, so I'm not aware of any online services that offer this (though no doubt there is something). So from my perspective, your best bet would be to setup a couple of different virtual machines with the browsers you need. One with IE 8, Chrome, and FF5, and another with IE7 and FF3. You don't need to test past versions of Chrome since Google doesn't support them (and immediately updates all clients to the latest version), and FF4 is equally discontinued.

Thanks for the response! Actually there are sites like Multiple Browser Viewer and Browser cam, and free online services such as http://ipinfo.info/netrenderer/index.php . However, I wanted to see if anyone knows a proven system. Chrome does update, however according to our google analytics, people are still using older versions. Similarly with firefox, not everyone updates.

I've discuss this with many people. It ends up that all of us have 5 or more browsers to test our website.

Maybe this is normal for web developers?

Most people agree that testing with the real browser is the fastest and the best way.
