Need a 1TB hdd, 2.5 inch, and 9.5mm height, for storage.

What is a good brand to choose from, in terms of reliability ?

I purchased 100 of these last spring I sold them on ebay at 80 bucks each.

I kept 3 for my macmini's the three in my mac minis all work well.

Of the 97 I sold only 1 return. It had a click sound.. I put it in my friends pc as a boot drive and he has used it for 40 days. so basically they are pretty reliable.
I have no more to sell. I just wanted to say it has been good to me and I have used a bigger sample then most.

There really aren't very many 2.5-in 1TB HDDs (internal.) Hitachi is one, and the Seagate hybrid is another. Reliability is unknown because neither has been around long enough to see any long term experience. I would personally select the Seagate hybrid for $89 at Newegg - has a 3 year warranty. I have used Seagate hybrids for over two years and find them very reliable and excellent performers.

I only handled the hitachi and yes I started the sale of the Hiatchi's in APR OF THIS YEAR. So while they have been great from 4-2013 to 11 -2013 that is only 7 months.

this link shows the install of the 1tb hitachi and a 960 crucial ssd in a 2012 mac mini. Done april 2013 and is working just fine in my home right now.

If your using it for a system drive go with Seagate hybrid and you will gain some speed and be happy.
If the drive is only for back up go for the best warranty.

There are no reliable drives, ever. I don't quite know why that is your primary concern but you need to be aware that there is no useful data to tell us one drive is more reliable than another, we don't know that until the drives are obsolete. But even the reliable drives will fail, its a mechanic part and it will stop working at some point in the future. It might be within the first few hours or it might give you 10 years of healthy service, buying a more or less reliable drive wont change that fact at all.

Why is reliability your primary concern? Because if you don't have backups a "reliable" drive isn't going to save you from yourself.

I do not plan to keep backups, because all the data I plan to put on there are easy to re-download if required, like different versions of softwares and linux/windows ISOs ..etc. , and can be re-downloaded, .. and some backups.

I still have an old 6GB 4200rpm harddrive and a 200mb <4200rpm drive, and they still work, I wish that drives today are as reliable as some of those older drives.

If you need it for storage only, I recommend WD Red 1TB 2.5'' 9.5mm (WD10JFCX). Cool, quiet, vibration & resonance resistant (to some degree), 24x7 operation 3-year warranty.
