What do you guys think about a bose wave. Anything other suggestions?

MP3 capable with a USB readable input would be nice.

CD's would be nice.

waterproof remote because I'll be cooking and I'm messy.

Good sounding.

Bose is overpriced for the sound. It sounds good, but not for the $. If you want to spend some money, get a netbook and some decent speakers. It would cost as much as the Bose, but is 100* more useful.

I've got one like this that I used in my last house and now in my home gym:
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-ICFCDK50-...pd_sim_sbs_e_2

It's not waterproof but it's under the cabinet and tucked way out of the way. It also doesn't do USB input but it's got an aux in that works well. Sound is "ok". No high fidelity, but it's a kitchen and the acoustics are going to likely suck anyway.

Oh, saw it's waterproof remote requirement...well this isn't waterproof but it is magnetic so you just stick it on the fridge when not in use.

This is for the kitchen, lol. I would think that something small and discrete, preferably that could hang so that it doesn't use up valuable counter space would be ideal.

Depends on his exact setup. I could hide a 2.1 speaker system in my kitchen, and make a rack that held the netbook under the cabinet, but would drop down for use. I like general purpose equipment, and having a computer gives you more options to do things.

I bought a shelf system and put it in the pantry, but got rid of the speakers that came with it and put a pair of Klipsch KG-1s on top of the wall cabinets. Those things can rock the house for their size.

Sounds pretty Ghetto. Looks are important to me so a small package w/o wires and stuff would be good.

That's pretty cool but high fi is important to me. Maybe I want to get loud when all these brats around here start making noise:p I think I'm sorta commited to bose unless someone knows of same for half price.

That's a great idea however cabinets go to ceiling in my house. No real place to hide speakers. However , I could make a couple doors with screen by taking out center panel.. maybe doors above fridge which no one can reach anyway.

What are you using to run the speakers?

Phillips fw-C527 It says 240 watts, but that's a joke.

I think it set me back $200 in 2005. But, those Klipsch speakers were like $300 pr. in '95

They make some nice in-wall speakers these days.
