NEED A Quiet Computer

Here is the deal an Antec 1030 and running a Athlon 1.2 ghz... Right now my cooling is a Thermalright Sk-6 with a Delta Fan.... Its too loud. I am willing to spend upto $150 to get the quietest possible computer without sacraficing cooling. Whats my best bet? Is water cooling quiet and if so would it give me just as good cooling as the SK-6 and delta?

Sooo what aree my options for QUIET as possible, without raising my cpu temp.

Yes, watercooling will easily outperform any air cooling if done correctly. It will definitely be quiet. The only fan that you will need is a large 12cm low RPM fan in your whole case. Here a linky for you.

bump....

been doing some research and water cooling doesn't seem to be much cooler or quieter... plus it has a lot of problems.....
what do you guys think? Right now I am using an SK-6 with a fan adapter and a zalman 80 mm fan..... noise is marginal... but my temps are too hot?!!! Whats my best bet for solid, quiet cooling... i would like to keep my cpu fan under 21 or so db and my temps under 50C.... Help!~!

You could buy a Thermalright AX-7, the current champion of Socket A heatsinks, mate it with a low-speed Panaflo L1A, and with just a single exhaust fan (for which another Panaflo L1A would make sense) you could have a reasonably quiet PC with adequate temperatures.

I assume you already know this, but you will be taking a pretty decent increase in temps by changing from a Delta to anything else. They have both incredible loudness and air flow, so keep this in mind. The setup suggested by sw_scorch should be fine, especially if you aren't OC'ing or anything.

yeah i know about the thread with reviews.... i looked at a whole bunch and didn't see any using a 21 dB fan or less on the AX-7... i'm guessing you saw one... could i get the link?

Who says you can't have your delta and sanity too?

Since your motherboard is on Alpha's fit list, another option is the Alpha PAL8045. I use mine with a Panaflo L1A on my XP1700+, which has similar heat output to your TBird 1.2, and it's working well. Bit of a pain to install, however! The AX-7 clips on, so you wouldn't have to remove the motherboard.

Let me make this comparison: judging the heatsink without the fan, does the AX-7 have a higher capacity than a stock AMD heatsink? Heck yeah. And which moves more air, a Panaflo L1A or a stock AMD fan? The Panaflo, with 24cfm versus 21cfm. So at the very least, you can say that an AX-7 with an L1A should be better than what AMD requires to cool a 1.2GHz. Considering you're not overclocking it, that would be a nice combo for ~$35 shipped. Or you could get a YS Tech adjustable-rpm fan.

Well... i believe alpha heatsink is the way to go. Cost lower then swiftech. If you are not heading to crazy overclocking, your choice is alpha8045 with a low dba 80mm fan. There are tons of fans for you to choose...like vantec 21dba 27 cfm, sunon 30 cfm , thermaltake 37cfm.....panaflo (popular one) ... With a huge heatsink from alpha and u are not overclocking, you can choose a most quiet fan.

Well, I have an Alpha PAL8045 with an Athlon 1.1, and I see 49-51 C full load. Right now I am running at 48 with an ambient temp of 21 C. Let me see if I can find you any reviews...

My $0.02.

I have an xp1800 oc'ed to a 1900 and I'm using the AX-7 with the Panaflo L1A.

Load temps are 49 celcius and that's with the gigabyte 7vrxp that is known to report temps higher than they are.

I have another L1A as my exhaust fan and took out the stock fan in my sparkle psu and put an L1A there as well.

Only thing I can hear on my machine is the hard drive.

Edit, I have a chenming case equivalent to the Antec 630 (mid/mini tower)

geez, if all you need to cool is an ath1.2, by all means, get an AX-7 + silencer :: $38, almost silent, more than enough cooling for that chip

edit: btw, I run an xp1.33 w/ AX-7 + silencer + as2, with no other fans in the case, barely any venting, and high room temps, and it stays below 47 under full load, just 8C above case temp (you can tell what a hot case I have!)
