So we're getting a new mattress and wanted to get the one we were most happy with. Checked out this "Dornea" place in the mall and long story short got it down to a King size one of their matresses that we like for $1600 out the door, shipped, and with two pillows ($100 each). The mattress itself is normally like $1800.

Now we came home to get the checkbook and checked their "dornea direct" website to find we can get the same mattress with pillows shippe for $1770.

So I'm thinking that $1600 isn't the best the guy can do, but it is what we verbally agreed upon.

Should I walk in for a check for $1500 and say take it or leave it?

EDIT To add a little more, the guy talked to his DM (actually saw him on the phone) to get this price. His DM supposedly said only $1700, but after we pestered him a little he said he would do $1600. I think he's got $1500, but part of me doesn't want to be an ass.

Thoughts?

I would buy a mattress from this outfit Text.

I got a knock-off tempurpedic 5.3 lb mattress and it's just as good as a real TempurPedic.

I highly recommend them.

We bought our bed/mattress from the Brick Clearance center (up here in Canadia). It was originally a $1400 queen pillow-top, got it for $800 or so, open box, no damage at all. Got the frame and head/foot boards for $200 (really nice ones too, new in box). Got the whole thing on a year w/no payments or interest. Cause we bought a few high-margin items too (cover, protection plan, etc) he knocked the price down a little more too. With shipping into our apartment, and tax (15%) it came to just over a grand.

2 things you should NEVER skimp on is your mattress and your work shoes. You spend too much time in one, and not enough in the other...

The store is still making at leas 50% on the bed. The guy is just working out of his commission % right now and probably lost $15 by giving you $200 off. The pillows basically cost them nothing as stores buy them by the truckload.

Don't pay more than $1500, the call to the DM was probably fake and you can get the bed for $1400 if you walk in with cash. And dont let them screw you on delivery or a frame either.
