I know this should be an easy thing to just look up on google but for some reason none of them are working. My main problem has been that I can add music but can not delete music. Ive already installed 4 different programs including winamp which looks to be the exact same thing as what itunes was to begin with. So without installing every program out there Im curious what others have used that they like. I just need a stand alone program that i can use to manage my music...I dont need a player or anything else. This is still the main reason i really hate apple. if this was any other mp3 I could just use my computer to do the job, but with apple it must be a stand alone program. In any case im using win xp and have prob a first gen ipod along with a recent version (maybe the 2 years old for the newer one.) Outside of this problem theyt work great and the battery life really is quite good, and being gifts to me I cant complain too much.

It's a firmware replacement for your iPod. Nothing needs to be installed on your computer. Just upgrade the iPod's firmware, and then manage your iPod as if it were a flash drive. Drag and drop, on any computer, without iTunes. Double-check to make sure your iPod is compatible, most of the older ones are.

I cant stand itunes. It is like malware. It is malware. When an ipod is plugged in to my pc, I get these quick flashes every 30 seconds. My whole screen flashes, but it happens so quickly I cannot tell what it is. God knows what is being flashed across my screen! Probably a message saying "I am going to buy an iPad 3. I must buy it."

I would love a way to make it so I can copy songs just by using the "Send to" context menu option. I can do that with any ol thumb drive and it is a helluva lot easier than dealing with some bloated crap malware.

As much as people gush on and on about how great Apple is, I can't stand iTunes or iCloud. Far too proprietary and constraining, and I don't think very user-friendly.

I have 2 old Sansa MP3 players that are easy to use with already installed software (WMP) ...life is good!

Oddly, I like iTunes. Dislike Apple's DRM (and just about everything else about them), but I like the organization and ease of use iTunes, and have yet to find another program that works as well for me. Winamp still feels like shareware, and Songbird comes close, but I find I still prefer iTunes.
