English essays are NEVER the same as history/social science essays. Your first mistake is writing like they are.
Other than that, yes, I have had that happen. The first time was my junior year of high school when we had this huge research paper we spent months on and countless drafts. Gave me the lowest B he could and when I asked to talk to him about it he straight up said how if someone else had written the same paper he would have given them an A, but he felt I didn't work up to my potential and that's why I got the low B. :|
That's life though. Now I realize it didn't really matter. Most recently in my theater class the professor would constantly give me lower grades than some of the people who did terrible which was really frustrating. We had to create a character and present them in a 2 minute solo scene as our final project. I did someone that actually exists for the biography, one of my friends from Sacramento, and I got my paper back and it was a B and said "Your character is inconsistent." Apparently my friend is an inconsistent person then.
