Need a PC?

They have RAID in the configuration, but I don't see any info on a controller. I have lots of hard drives, what RAID controller does this thing supposedly have, or am I nuts?

EDIT: guessing ATA/SATA RAID. Phooey....ick.

I believe its IDE Raid.

Not sure what it was before but it's now only a free upgrade to a P4 2.4Ghz 800MHz FSB.

This uses the 875P chipset so it probably has the onboard RAID.

Make sure you read through all the components before you buy. It came out to $840 + OS for a configuration that I would bother with.

Look lower, you can upgrade it to a 2.8GHz HT P4. Will this thing take only ECC RAM, and is there an AGP slot?

EDIT: Odd, I selected the 2.8 and updated, it kicked the price up $100...

When I go to the site it says this for the 2.8 upgrade:

Free Upgrade to an Intel® P®4, 2.8GHz,800FSB at a 2.4 price [add $99 or $3/month1] Special Offer

Says Free but then it says it charges $99.

Yeah the wording for the 2.8Ghz P4 is a bit weird. They basicly mean that instead of paying $199 to upgrade to the 2.8, you only pay $99, which is what it normally costs to get the 2.4GHz P4. They should change it from "Free.." to "Save $100" on the 2.8GHz upgrade.

Yes it has an AGP and will take non-ECC ram. I got one last week and love it. Moved over my Ti4200 and added a GB of Crucial memory and Windows XP Pro.

For more detailed info, go to the very helpful 400SC FAQ.

Does that p4 have 256KB of L2 cache? It costs $100 mroe to get 512KB cache 2.8...

If I was a fan of Intel (and had money 😛) I'd buy one.

I say wait on this m8's.... In the past dell usually has really good deals just before the end of april. So, maybe could get a 3.2 for some killer pricing. These deals always come and go. I already have a few 2.4's.

Better deals are to be had! 😉

Aha! But you forget that hardcore DC'ers use free network boot Linux distros on their crunchers for maximum processing efficiency. 🙂
