I'm looking for a boad with raid built in, trying to set up this system with 3 drives, ide burner and ide reader, i'm out of the allocated # of connectors for ide devices. Since they dont make a board that allows you to connect 8 devices, I have to go to raid.

My choices are:

Abit BD7II-RAID
CPU type: Socket-478; Chipset: i845E; Memory: PC2100; PCI: 5; DDR: 3; AGP: 4x; ATA/133; Ethernet; Audio; USB 2.0; RAID; Form: ATX

Asus P4T533
CPU type: Socket-478; Chipset: i850E; Memory: PC1066; PCI: 6; RIMM: 2; AGP: Pro; ATA/133; Audio; USB 2.0; RAID; Form: ATX

MSI/Microstar 854E Max2-BLR (MS-6398E)
CPU type: Socket-478; Chipset: i845E; Memory: PC2100; PCI: 6; DDR: 3; AGP: 4x; ATA/133; Ethernet; Audio; USB 2.0; RAID; Form: ATX. (Bluetooth.)

Gigabyte GA-8IRXP
CPU type: Socket-478; Chipset: i845D; Memory: PC2100; PCI: 6; DDR: 3; AGP: 4x; ATA/133; Ethernet; Audio; USB 2.0; RAID; Form: ATX

which of the 4 are top picks or is there another i am missing, remember, i dont care about raid, but i need to hook up 6 ide devices

thanks all, these forums have been extremely helpful

You should also include the epox 4GA+ and Abit IT7--(12 ide devices!)

Do you have a system now that you need more IDE ports for? If so, you can just add a PCI IDE card to get some more ports.

If you are looking for a new board, some RAID controllers can only funtion as RAID, not regular IDE ports. Be sure ypu pick the right one.

the Abit IT7 is a nice board, except is lacks 5 pci slots, usb, parallel and serial ports, too bad abit doesnt make a board that has 12 devices with the needed ports. The epox 4GA supports 8 devices, same as the other 4 i listed before.

oldfart, i'm price hunting for a new system :)
