I currently have an ASUS V9999GT 128MB 6800GT and while it is working great..I fell the piddly little standard cooler is simply to small, the ram on my card isn't even cooled by it and it doesn't have a decent heatsink on it just a tiny little copper one.

could I get a new HSF unit from Asus..possible one off of a V9999 (6800) or a V9999 Ultra which is similar to the nvidia reference unit?

my current card temps are:

idle 49c GPU, 43c RAM

Full load 58c GPU, 49c RAM

are these temps high?

Get a Zalman cooler. I forgot the part number but you can search in Newegg for it.

As far as i know you can't get one from Asus, the AC NV 5(?) or either of the zalmans are good coolers, the AC one is probably cheaper by a fair bit, the zalman looks better.

I bought a couple silencers from SVC a few weeks back. $10 for the 6800 one, $15 for the one for my x850xt (I really needed that one) and they're really quiet.

Dude there is no reason for you to get an aftermarket hsf, unless you really cant stand the noise or something. The stock 6800gt's fan isnt even that noisy, i wouldnt recommend replacing it unless your rich.

my Asus card soesn't have the standard cooler...it has a miniturised ASUS unit which doesn't cover the ram...and it is pretty noisy compared to the reference cooler...which is simliar to those used on the ASUS V9999 and V9999 Ultra

this is what I have http://www.asus.com.au/products4.aspx?l1=2&l2=7&l3=3&model=256&modelmenu=1

this is what I want to replace the cooler with http://www.asus.com.au/products4.aspx?l1=2&l2=7&l3=3&model=253&modelmenu=1

or

http://www.asus.com.au/products4.aspx?l1=2&l2=7&l3=3&model=257&modelmenu=1

as you can the V9999GT's cooler is pathetic compared to the other two models.
