Need a new Vacuum cleaner - any suggestions? Besides Dyson :-P

My parents have had a dyson since last Christmas; Mom loves it, and it works beautifully. Much as I'd like to have one though, the price just seems rediculous. Cheapest I can find is about $360, and that includes a 10% discount off the sticker price. And they just go up from there. Anybody have any other suggestions?

Why do you want bagless?
I have a bagless Hoover, and cleaning out the canister is a pain in the butt: all the dust you collected flies out like a nuclear mushroom cloud and settles all around you.

If you want a Dyson without the price go to Wal-Mart (or amazon) and get a Hoover Mach5. It uses the same bagless tunnel and has a hepa filter. I think it is like $160. theres a Mach3 but it doe snot have a hepa filter or several other features that I think are really worth the upgrade to the Hoover Mach5.

If you've got a Big Lots nearby, they have Hoover allergen filtration or bagless with HEPA filter, self-propelled, refurbs for $90.

after having a bagless, i like bagged better

Listen to these two replies. I'm the same way. Last vaccum I bought I though bagless sounded like a good idea. WRONG. The damn thing needs to be dumped out every freaking time you vaccum and it's a horrible mess trying to beat the dust out of the filter.

Get a bagged one.

I have some favorites, but AT is too cheap to buy them. They'd never pay the price.

In AT's defense, a vacuum isn't terribly useful on a website.

i got a refurb Kirby on ebay from a vacuum shop for $230. I now know why they go for $1000+ new. I will never buy any other kind of vacuum again.

My Dyson was in the low 200 range from LNT with a 20% off coupon, rebate, and gift cards bought with a 20% off discount using a 1.25% cash back credit card. 😉

I just couldn't find anything for a reasonable price that needs no supplies. Everything else has a HEPA filter that needs to be replaced periodically.

bingo. this is by far the best "bang for the buck" vacuum, and it uses similar dyson technology.

huge thread on the vacuum

Since I can get my dysons for less than $150 (bought my DC07 for $75), I use dysons, but there's no way I'd pay retail for a dyson when these alternatives are available
