well...my job has now restricted access to our home email accounts so I'm going to need a phone that is capable of checking my personal email.

i have cingular and was trying to decide between the new BlackJack or the 8525.

any of you guys out there have either of the phones and care to comment on the pros or cons of each. also, which type of plan should I get with the phone? i currently have the family share 550 and the media max 200 Bundle.

I currently have a LG CU500 which I really like but I need to be able to check my mail for my home buisness, etc.

thanks in advance.

i have heard really good things about the HP and i have played with the one at my company for some time.

the HTC is a really good handset. A close friend at work tested it for 6 weeks.

The new blackberry takes some time to get used to. It is also a blackberry and cannot do everything a typical phone can do.

Stay away from the Q...my boss has one and isnt a large fan at all.

I don't know anything about that samsung.

Check out www.phonescoop.com for more specs.

i just bought a blackjack yesterday and I like it. the form factor is nice and it is suprisinly light. i would say check it out, the 8525 is just too damn big in my opinion, its like carrying around a brick or a blackberry in your pocket

The Pearl looks really nice....any advantages of it over the 8125 or BJ?

anybody know what features some have over the others? ie...someone already mentioned that the 8125 is like carrying a brick in ur pocket.

also, if anyone has one of these phones or the trio what type of data plan do u have as well with cingular.

i personally don't think it is that great...

You have lost it.

This is the best phone I have ever used.

The 8525 has the scroll wheel on the left side. Terrible for me, but others may like it.

The BlackJack is pretty cool.

If you like Windows Mobile phones either would be okay. I just like the way the Blackberry works with BES and can't keep any smartphone over 3 days.

i've never owned a smartphone before....so I have no idea what advantages a Win mobile phone has over a blackberry, etc. what is BES?

I think the 8525 is too large. I recently bought a T-Mobile Dash (HTC S620) and absolutely love it. To me, these smaller phones fully realize the potential of a Smart Phone.

A Windows Mobile device is infinitely more useful to me than anything else. I can use many of my existing Pocket PC applications, integrate with Exchange easily (I know other devices offer integration), etc.

BES is garbage, its a micky mouse integration with Exchange.

I just upgraded from my 8700c blackberry to the blackjack. the bb os is reatrded, the phones are gigantic. they mix up personal email with work email and text messages in the same view.

Or Cingular 2125 (HTC Tornado IIRC). Just be careful if you want to use it for PDA apps and not just email/calendar features. The Smartphone version of Windows Mobile 5 isn't as widely supported by some programs.

if you can find a 8125, it's pretty nice... HOWEVER, the processor can be REALLY slow...

i, personally, find it irritating trying to switch between calling/contacts/calendar and it's 2 screens behind me.

I chose the pearl 8100 over the blackjack for the following reasons:

Battery Life is much better on the Pearl

I was looking for a phone first, and a PDA second. The QWERTY on the blackjack was just a little too much for me right now. The Pearl is more of a phone.

It's smaller

I've heard Iffy things on Windows mobile.

It's not your typical blackberry. I'm the kind of guy that would NEVER buy a blackberry, but the pearl is completely different.

Yo, that is one nice looking phone. What can it do that my SMT5600 can't? Seriously, if you were me would you upgrade for a reason other than gadget lust?

I went out and got the Blackjack on the very first day it was released, and have been happy with it. I think what really puts it above the pearl is the 3G network. As long as you live in an area with 3G service it really makes a difference. I went from the 8125 to the Blackjack and the speed on PIE is huge.

see thats one of the things that has me a little worried. the pearl looks a little nicer then the blackjack but the BJ is 3G which the pearl is not....my cu500 is a 3g phone and its very fast

Lets put it this way if you need an idea of the speeds you will get. I get about 930Kb/s on the Blackjack with 3G, and I got about 180-200Kb/s with the 8125 on EDGE. The Blackjack just feels a lot snappier though. I haven't seen or played with the pearl though so I can't comment on that one.

Yup, UMTS is significantly faster than EDGE. When I get 'nother smartphone to replace what I've got, I'll be sure it has UMTS as the GPRS is painfully slow.

Smartphone do a lot more than 'browse the internet' and non smartphones do a terrible job of browsing the web.
