Need a new processor

Blurry

Senior member
I am building a new computer in 2 days. I've got everything ready except for the processor,
I have two processors within my budget. One is the Athlon XP 2000 and the other a Pentium 4 2GHz.
I want to know which one is better.
Is the Pentium more stable?
Can the Pentium overclock better than the Athlon?
Thanks!

Well anybodys guess on that one...

IMO....

1.6a's usually get 133fsb easy and a bit more difficult but reachable to get to 150....

1.8a's usually get to 125fsb and quite a few can make it to 133...

see a pattern of diminishing returns???

Likely 2.0a's should get 114-116fsb but if you have luck you can reach 133fsb...for 2ghz p4 a 133fsb would be 2,660mhz which would be a sizeable oc...stock cooling unlikely as the vcore likely will need to be pushed high...

good luck though...

if you can get the 2.0ghz to 120fsb and to 2.4ghz you'd definitely be faster then the 2000+ XP in most if all appzs. The athlon 2000+ xp was already hitting the ceiling of the .18 micron process so doubt there is much opc room...vcore likley will have to be boosted and will require much more aggressive cooling hardware....

Try to find a board that will allow you to lock pci/agp speeds as 133fsb is unlikley and anything close to that will have pci speeds out of specs to the point of some possible issues.

Since I guess that I won't be overclocking a lot, i think that my only option would be the Athlon Xp 2000.
