Ordering a new power supply, (getting reboots after ati card install)

I have a 2200 athlon xp, dfi ultra lanparty rev.a, 2 cd-roms, 1 HD, 1 floppy, 2 lights, 3 case fans plus volcano2 cpu fan.

I want the Aspire turbo 500w ps cause its 1. cheap $56 and 2. has uv sleeving and cool case window with lighted fans.

But I read the Antec true 480 'blue' is the $hit. But its like $84.

//*Ive never even thought about the powersupply until this. I dont overclock, but may if I find a unlocked 2500 (doubtful, Ill build new before this probably) but enough to light my uv stuff I continue to collect...
... I really think the ps would look better by modding it my self, but would cost ~$50+ for the parts alone. plus getting molex removal tools. Just a note . *//

Get a great big one! :D

Looking at those NV40 reviews, 480W is just enough.

Dont be stingy on a PSU, and if you want a next gen card then 480W is what nvidia reccomended although i saw a power usage chart somwhere that says it can or should be fine with less power. Antecs 430 Truepower would be great, im waiting for one myself.

There have been some reports on another techie forum that the Achieve brand has some good, budget PSUs. SVC.com carries some. But I don't know from first hand - I'd be kind of leery of any PSU that doesn't have both UL (RU - with file no. (Exxxxxx) under it) and TUV certification marks. I haven't seen 'em on any Achieve.
. I would generally stick with the Fortron FSP- models as they are a known quantity. I think the Silverstone PSUs are made by Enhance, so they should be pretty decent .

I don't know many that are as active as this one, but the same things seem to come up over and over. I stop by techimo.com and tek-tips.com occasionally. Techimo is where I saw some recommendations of the Achieve PSUs.

I would look for power supply with the highest 12v. Enermax and Antec are pretty good. Fortron/Sparkle are decent too. My next powersupply will likely be Enermax as they make excellent powersupply and have high 12v on most of their units.

This one tests at +11.5v and -11.5v, so one reviewer says.
But ANTEC seem to actually hit 12v.
Like every thing, you get what you pay for. But, Im going medium pocket burn this time.

I feel your pain. Expensive GF. :(

Tired of blowing $$$ at clubs and lounges on watered down drinks.

Don't cheap out on your power supply. I'd choose the Antec over the Aspire, but the one that I think I'd recommend is the Enermax NoiseTaker 475W. I haven't used it myself, but I read a review over at Silent PC Review that it was very quiet, had stable voltages, and was the most efficient power supply that they'd ever tested by far. Not too sure of the American price, since I live in Canada. You'd have to look that one up yourself.

Hi all, I was just reading this thread, as I am in need of a new psu too, and came across this one...<A class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.cluboverclocker.com/reviews/power/Tt/butterfly/page3.htm" target=blank>

Tt Butterfly 480w</A>

This is one I'd go for myself....

Well, going with the second item of importance, an excellent 550w PSU is the Aerocool 550Watt Blue Acrylic Power Supply.

There is an AT news link to 3DGameman's review HERE

Other reviews are seen at the
Manufacturer's Website.

And you can buy it at this link to Tiger Direct for $109

Pricey, well...yes. But the sleeving AND connectors are UV responsive, and there are 8 four-pin connectors, two SATA power cables, the fans are BLUE LED with acrylic windows, all encased in a shiny titanium shell.

Pretty snazzy with lots of juice. I bought it yesterday.
