Need a new point and shoot digital camera

A few years ago, I found a pretty decent deal on a Kodak digital camera that I kept around as a clunker. I took it on all my dangerous trips and didn't care if it got scratched, dented, dinged, or lost. Its sole purpose was to take a beating in place of my much more expensive and nicer cameras.

I lent said clunker to my best friend for a trip he took to Nicaragua. He lost it. Fortunately, he's a good guy and has (like ANYBODY should) offered to replace it. I paid around $100 for the camera he lost, so what does $100 buy me today?

I'd prefer an SD-based camera because my Nikon is SD.

Thanks!

The lower-end Panasonics are very good in that price range, also, and include image stabilization.

I can't believe I beat 996GT2 to this!

Damn it you did! Boo!

But, seriously though, go look at the Panasonic LZ8 and LZ10. Some of the very best cameras you can buy in that price range.

Thanks!

Something like this then? http://www.usa.canon.com/consu...ryid=183&modelid=16338

The only thing about Canon cameras is that I actually consider them good pieces of equipment. I'll feel bad if anything happens to it, unlike that POS Kodak. I actually laughed when my friend said he lost it.

A $100 camera is a $100 camera no matter how to slice it.

You can get some "High end" Kodaks for that price.. They have every useless and somewhat functioning feature Kodak can think of..

I would still stick with Canon...

I'm not sure what would be a good point n shoot these days, I got a Canon P&S once and it was crappy. I'm a Canon SLR fan, but not P&S.

I just picked up the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS5 with a 32 GB mem card for my niece, and she seems to like it. It doesn't get great reviews by the users because it doesn't have manual mode or manual focusing, but 10.1 megapix with Leica lens & 0.4 sec response time got to my wallet.

$100-$150

Sony W120
Canon SD1100
Panasonic FS3

Can't go wrong with any of those.

Back in the good old days Sony had nice low-end models. But that was a while ago.

As always, I start with Newegg. I hear the canon powershots take good quality pics for the money.
The problem is with tax and/or shipping you'll spend more than 100 dollars. Also, sometimes they have combo deal where you can get a memory card for a good price.

Thanks for all the advice guys, I just picked up a Powershot A470 + 4 gig card for ~$100 shipped.
