Need a new mattress!

The last one I bought was like 7 years ago so I have no idea what to look for. What are the good brands? What are the key things to look for? I hate asking salesmen this stuff because they just want you to buy whatever gives them the best margin.

trust me, they are. I have no idea about mattresses though, sorry.

My wife and I bought a king sized Sealy from Rooms 2 Go and we're trading it in for a Simmon's BeautyRest. Try epinions.com too for advice. The Simmons isn't well like there but it seemed comfortable enough. The Sealy we just bought has a problem where the left and right side have indentions all the way from the head to the foot of the mattress. R2G has a 6 week trial period where if you don't like it, they'll let you trade it in for another of equal or greater value. We paid $869 for the Sealy and the Simmons is $899. This includes the box spring as well. The frame, stainproofing, and delievery were all extra.

Thanks amigaman. I just stumbed across epinions in my google search, it's kinda helpful. These things are frickin expensive!!

One thing I did read, and I don't know how true it is, is that manufacturers don't take mattresses back from retailers. So places that have these 60 day guarantees end up giving people used mattresses... ewwww.

Mattresses are so different, even if they are made by the same company. The only way to see if you like one is go put your hands and A_S on it. If you have A Sams, try there. They have some really nice name brands that are a lot cheaper than the stand alone stores. Also check out sears, they have some, but they have everthing from the cheap ones to nice ones.

I just got a Serta king, after buying a ok priced one 2 years ago I will never do that again, thats why I had to get a new one. Do scrimp too much it is your sleep you are doing it on. I just tried them out with my wife till we found a good one. Prices are about the same everywhere I look within a 100 dollars. One thing I did see was they change the name of the matress from store to store so you cant do the pricematch thing. I know here they have the find it lower its free crap but no one else sells it at that "exact name." Sorry for not too much help, but the better ones we liked were the Selays and Setras.

Oh no! You called me a name(or at least I assume you are talking about me since the name you used is not mine but it is quite similar kind of like your post and what comes out of my ass). How will I ever go on with life? I don't think I can take it anymore. I think I will go to sleep on the floor now.

If you don't like my suggestion to sleep on the floor you could have just said so. No need to be sarcastic because I offered an answer to your question.

I'd look at getting one through Costco, if there is one in your area. I believe delivery is free, and they are great with returns and backing up warranties.

I rarely say this kind of thing in forums, but you are really a dumbass. My question was not "please tell me alternatives to buying a mattress". You just wanted to add a useless post to be a smart guy and pad the ol' post count.

In other news, I went to a couple stores today. Sales people don't like it too much I guess when you bring a notebook to write stuff down. Apparently the key is to get the "secret book" which lists different retailers' names for the same mattress. I can't see any benefit to that policy other than to cause confusion for the customer and reduce the number of price matches they do.

I looked at a bunch of Sertas and Sealys, around the $1200-1500 range. The "sensafiber" seems cool, it supposedly wicks excess heat away from the body. I'll check out the bulk discount stores (Sam's, Costco) next weekend. Thanks for the useful tips, everyone else.

the other half of YAKKO's posts are complaining that ppl dont spell his name yakko.. haha.. how predictable.

I think you better do a recount because you are obviously wrong. There is no member name YAKKO.

Just a little followup since I know everyone is riveted!

I ended up getting a Serta Perfect Night Heartwood Plush, queen size. I got it at Sit N Sleep, they price matched another store so I got it for $1400 delivered. After sleeping on it for a few nights I have to say this is one of the best things I've ever bought. For the last month or so on my old bed I'd been waking up with a sore back every morning, but that's all gone now. I'm sure I spent too much for it but I still feel like it's a good investment since it will last for years. Plus, one year same as cash is always a bonus.

I don't know how much money you have to spend, but I got a nice firm mattress from Sleepy's. I don't know if they have a Sleepy's where you are (I'm in NYC), but they always have mattresses on sale all the time. Anyway, like one person mentioned, you really need to go down there and lie on the mattress and test them out. Everybody has their own personal preference for mattresses. I prefer mine extra firm. YMMV.

Get a memory bed. They feel freakin good. I bought one last year and on average I get 2 hours more sleep(Im always late for school too) =)
