My wife wants a new mattress and i see these online ones. The mattress we have now is a double pillow top so we can flip it every few months. But to those of you with single pillow top mattresses do only rotate the mattress since flipping it negates the pillow top. And then if i cannot flip the mattress doesn't that mean the mattress will wear out faster?

Correct

Correct.

Or just get a "normal" mattress and add a featherbed or foam to it. Then you can replace that when it wears out too, without needing a new mattress.

We had a pillowtop that sunk toward the middle after 10 years and got a new one - right now it feels sturdy so we never even thought about it - when you say flip, do you mean rotate 180 degrees? Not sure what you mean by double pillowtop. Having a pillowtop underneath sounds very wasteful as it's being crushed 24/7.

flipped means the bottom is flipped over to become the top, rotate means the footing becomes the heading on the bed. Also with some of the mattresses they use different materials so you only get the foam if on the top half and therefore you cannot flip the mattress. But a double pillow top is deep and buying sheets for that mattress is a pain since most sheets are not deep enough.

Mattress shopping again myself. Current one a Simmons Beautyrest only lasted three years before the coils broke down and the sag become unbearable and causing pain during sleep. Not sure what route I will go this time around.
