My old self propelled Home Depot finally died. Should I just throw it away and get a new one or should I get a really good Snapper or John Deer?

In the past I have had bad experiences with Sears mowers. Maybe they have gotten better. I'll look at them.

I wonder if a Craftsman mower has a lifetime warranty like their tools? They have a 6.75 rear bagger for $399 reg $479.

No craftsman mowers don't have a lifetime warranty. I used to work as a small engine tech for sears repair when I was in HS. Take a word of advice, but a craftsman. Yes, there may be other 'niicer' mowers out thier but they all breakdown at just about the same rate. (Because most use B&S or tecumseh engines). When you go with a craftsman, the parts are cheaper and you will always be able to get them.

Naw they just have a 2 year limited warranty.

Home Depot has a Toro electric start 6.5 for $399. I don't know if the Toro matches the Craftsman or not.

Thanks,

Thats the kind of advise that I was looking for. The 6.75 looks like the better buy with better features.

Nothing runs like a Kawasaki John Deere

lawn care guys I know, used to be partial to Honda engines on a Snapper chassis. I don't think that matters anymore.
My 1985 Honda, using Mobil1 synthetic oil, still runs. Main reason is the steel cylinder sleeves in a aluminum block. Your cheap-o engines don't have that.

I'd go w/ a jap engine, shaft drive, easy to handle rear bagger.

Sears has 2 Honda powered 5.5's for $599 & $369. They have more features than the 6.75. The $399 weighs 93 vs 95 but does not have a Brake Blade Clutch. Can I live without that?

don't know if these Hondas are sleved or not. If they are Honda they probably are. No?

Actually that's what I did. I split the difference between Honda and Craftsman and got a Craftsman with a Honda engine. It's been great so far and I anticipate it lasting a long time. It's got single point height adjustment, the brake blade clutch, rear wheel drive, etc. Love it.

We've had several Toros over the years (not the cheap ones you get at Home Depot, but the SuperRecycler series) and the decks and non-engine parts held up really well. But the engines would eventually die out on us. Then again, I used to use the mowers to do a LOT of mowing work when I was growing up so they probably got 5-6 times the usage of most normal mowers.

Great,
I love my Hondas (92 & 95). Gonna trade both for a new V6 4dr.

The mower will look good in the garage next to the cars.

For larger equipment I would recommend a John Deere.

I would recommend a budget of $350 or less to get a GOOD lawn mower which should last you a good 20 years.

Honda or Toro

self propelled sucks. We got one from home depot recently. I wish we hadn't. it weighs substantially more than the normal mowers. I'd either go rider or regular, no sense in going in between.

Depends how much lawn you need to cut, before my Divorce I had 2 John Deere Self propelled mowers and also had a john Deere 345 series 22 hp Liquid cooled rider with a 60 inch deck, Power steering and a PTO to mow 5 acres.
