Need a new job, what to do?

Ive had two jobs in my life, a part time warehouse job I worked alone and a full time industrial job that I do alone. The current industrial job is no longer a good place for me but I dont know what else I can do. Compounding the problem is the financial situation Ive got myself into. I managed to get stuck paying a huge ammount of rent with the origional intention of buying the place and saving money. Government kinda screwed that up for me...and now Im not sure how I want to deal with it.

Im thinking maybe I need to figure out what I can do or what jobs would fit me and what sort of starting pay I might get. Im hoping that information will help me decide what to do about the financial situation. Took me a few years to deal with the issue, but Im pretty sure Ive got it fixed now so I can actually buy a home. Now Im not entirely sure if thats the best bet or not though. If I buy a home I think that means I need to stay in my current job untill I get everything done.

So what do people do to figure out what they can do, what sort of jobs they would best fit, and what kind of pay they may get? Ive never really understood or figured out the benefits stuff (medical and whatnot), is that something I should worry about?

education, qualifications and place of residence.

Otherwise your whole post is pretty much useless waffle around the issue.

Just a highschool diploma, not really sure about the qualifications, and the biggest city near me would probably be Seattle, Washington. I actually live in the Kent/Auburn area currently and work near Renton/Tukwilla if anyone knows those.

So no hints on trying to figure this out? Just apply to everything and hope you get something that you end up being good at? No wonder so many Americans are unhappy...

The way it's set up right now is that without at least a Bachelor's degree, you are pretty much equivalent to a bum on the street. It's sucks, I know, but that is how it is. That is why I came back to college.

Feeling angry about this situation? Upset? Life's not fair? The general notion seems to be along the lines of "Go die.. No one Cares.. No one will miss ya."

There is a way around education.. In a sense... If you have connections and started doing something very early in life. I know some people that were pretty good with programming back in High School. They pretty much lived and breathed computers and school. No fun, no girls, no life. These people were noticed by those interested in this field of work, and invited to go work for them. Later, these same folks got promoted or found an even better job, becuase their resume was NOT empty. They live like this, without a college diploma to this day, and doing just fine.

But if you are past this point in life, with no connections, and with a resume that lists a few random jobs, there's pretty much no way around college if you want something better than a job in McDonalds or some kind of a stocker/cashier job.

I don't think anyone can tell wtf you're talking about, but here are some ideas from what I can piece together.

Im thinking maybe I need to figure out what I can do or what jobs would fit me
Search job sites and look at the qualifications listed for different positions to figure out what jobs you can do. To figure out what jobs would fit you take a personality test like Meyers-Briggs and see which jobs are suggested for your personality type.

and what sort of starting pay I might get.
Salary.com and searching google will get you ranges for different positions

Yes, you should figure out the "benefits stuff" other than that I have no idea what you're talking about. As far as the government screwing you out of a home- you should really take that up with them. I'm not sure what we can do to help you.

I guess I made my post to confusing...I was trying to give a little background since im not entirely sure which route to take.

I have very high expenses which cant be immediately or quickly fixed. I can barely afford them with my current pay but the job I am in is hostile. I would like to change jobs, but I have a very narrow feild of experience so I have no idea what kind of skills I may have or be good at.

Without knowing what kind of skills I have or what types of jobs may fit me I have no idea if it would be possible to switch jobs right now. So my goal is to figure out what kind of jobs I may best fit and then see if they would pay enough to cover my current expenses.

If a new job wouldnt not cover my current expenses then I need to start working on a solution to my finaces...which pretty much requires that I buy a house, which is a big decision. Im trying to do my best at checking all the angles before I jump into something.

Im checking out that personality test now...Ill be back.

Thanks for all the input so far, it really is helpfull to me.

You're the only one that can answer what skills you have. I suggest you google "skills inventory" and see if something that pops up in the search can help you discover your skills.

As others have said, though, you really need a Bachelor's degree to have a shot at most of the higher-paying jobs.

Hmmm...I not sure about that test, there were quite a few question I didnt really have an answer to. At the end I htried to look up the words because I didnt know what all it meant.

I only found introverted, which is self centered or shy.
I'd definitely say shy is a closer fit for me. I am retarded (seriously) and have a hard time with social stuff...so I do prefer to work alone or in small groups if necessary.

I was:

very expressed introvert
moderately expressed sensing personality
moderately expressed thinking personality
moderately expressed judging personality

As for you current living expenses, here's what I would do if my financial situation sucked. Buy a cheap, cheap, fixer upper house. You'll need credit, so if your financial situation really sucks, you may be SOL. My brother was on rough times, and purchased a $40-$45k fixer upper home to live in. Mortgage was in the ball park of 400-500 a month. So long as you find stable employment, you should be able to afford that much, I would think.

I would definitely solidify my employment before doing this, but if you live in the right areas, you should be able to find some lower income housing that isn't in the ghetto. If you don't live in such an area, move. There are plenty of small towns in the mid west where you can find cheap houses and about a $10 an hour job somewhere. Depends upon how tied down you are to your current area (family, friends, etc.).

How is the government responsible for you not buying the place?

If you have have no idea about anything, then I'm not sure how the rest of us can provide any useful information since we know you even less than you know yourself.

My only advise is to sign up at an employment agency. They'll find a job for you. You need to try a few different jobs and figure out for yourself what you're good at and what you enjoy more. If you're still fresh out of ideas, then you should look into UPS, Fedex, or USPS.

"As for you current living expenses, here's what I would do if my financial situation sucked. Buy a cheap, cheap, fixer upper house. You'll need credit, so if your financial situation really sucks, you may be SOL."

That was origionally my plan, I got a legal contract wirtten up saying I would buy X place at Y price a few years back. I put down a down payment but couldnt get a loan, so I had it setup that I would pay the current mortgage untill I could. Come to find out I had some stupid red flag on me from the government so I couldnt open any bank acounts or get any credit or anything. Took years to clear that up and I just recently got my first credit card. Unfortunately that means Ive been paying a double mortgage for somebody else this whole time (which has wiped me out financially) but I am obligated to untill they sell the home (to me or someone else).

"I would definitely solidify my employment before doing this, but if you live in the right areas, you should be able to find some lower income housing that isn't in the ghetto."

Thats what Im trying to figure out now, stick with a bad work environment in order to purchase this home (which unfortnately would cost allot more than its worth) or get a new job and keep paying what Ive been paying and spend another few years in a new better job so I can buy a home (or move out if I could make enough).

"If you don't live in such an area, move. There are plenty of small towns in the mid west where you can find cheap houses and about a $10 an hour job somewhere. Depends upon how tied down you are to your current area (family, friends, etc.). "

Im not really tied down except the contract I have which make me liable for the payments on this house untill it sells. I know they want way to much for it compared to the market now, and even if they went lower I couldnt afford to pay the rent plus another place for even a month. I guess it wont hurt to say it, 1350$ a month in rent.

Yes very stupid of me...but at the time I agreed to the contract I would have gotten the place for a good price and the monthly payment would have been much lower because I would be paying a single mortgage and possibly lower interest. I had saved a good portion for the down payment and was doing OK financially. I was expecting to get a loan with relative ease, but that didnt happen. I simply had (still have) no experience in these things and I just made a bad choice. Ive been lving with it, and I still manage to squeek by somehow without taking loans (well I couldnt get any if I wanted to most of the time) or ruining my credit. I was alway taught that credit is bad, should never live beyond your means...so I didnt get credit when I was a kid and it was fine.

Nowadays people thinks its apalling if a 16 year old doesnt have at least one credit card...and its basically required to do anything. Thats what I get for trying to be responsible LOLz.

I was hoping somebody would have some ideas how to figure it out...and I have gotten some ideas, like those tests. I need to spend more time looking at those and trying to figure out the results but it gets me a start.

But thanks for all the input so far. I gotta go now, Ill be thinking this over tonight.

Ive had two jobs in my life, a part time warehouse job I worked alone and a full time industrial job that I do alone.

The first problem I see is that you rely on a single income stream - big mistake. To make money, you need multiple income streams - your main job, and then several feeder side jobs.

Garage sale + ebay - is a good way to make a little extra money. Buy the brand name kids clothes at garage sale, turn around and sell it on ebay.

Open a blog - you can start a free blog through blogger. Put google adsense or amazon associate banners on the blog once it becomes established.

Get a room mate? Not sure if you have a spare room to rent out?

Get into one or more of the "Skilled Trades"--Electrician, plumbing, carpentry, auto tech!! FTW!!

Yeah, trade. Add welding or something useful to the list. Or just start applying everywhere--everywhere! Pulling stuff off the shelves at Amazon and putting it in a box requires little skill or socialization.

As far as expenses go, how about a roommate... or a whole house of illegals (Canadians) sharing one bedroom?

How about farming "herbal medication" in your overpriced residence?

This is a Myers-Briggs personality test. Being introverted in this test is not a bad thing at all. There are no "bad" types, just different types.

I don't know if you've read up on that type at all (most tests have a short little thing about the type you are).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISTJ

It might help you identify things you are good at. I know I've used write-ups about my type to identify and solidify my thoughts about my strengths and weaknesses when writing cover letters. It may help you find things to talk about yourself in interviews.

Well dang, I dont know how they figure that out but that sounds quite a bit like me.

I had tried to look it up, but I was looking for the individual components. Ive still got the tab open and noticed that it does say Im an ISTJ. The site doesnt have any other information though, and I wasnt sure what it meant or how accurate it is...but that wiki sums it up pretty good. Not entirely sure what that means yet, but its nice to know. I have a hard time trying to explain myself, this could do it for me.
