we want to put in a new washer and dryer into the basmenet we arent currently refinishing, does anyone have any recommendations? they have to be front load and stackable. The dryer is not important because my mom likes to hang stuff to dry so it will not be gettting alot of use, but the washer should be in the 3.5cu ft range.

We just got these from Costco, and like them very much.

My in-laws have them. They said they'll never get them again.

Waste of moeny and I guess they are less practical. Oh, the inlaws probably make $500K+ a year, so it's not a budgetary concern for them. They simply think they are way over-rated.

It's your basement, why stackable? You should have plenty of room.

I would strongly look at the L.G. models. They have a much better warranty than U.S. companies, and they are built very well.

As far as fron load washers being a waste of money:

1. They use a lot less water and detergent....cheaper for you and better for the environment.

2. They clean better and your clothes last longer.

3. Your clothes come out drier, so you spend less money drying them.

4. They are energy star rated, so you can get rebates when offered from utility companies.

Having used them (first in Europe), they are the way to go.

because its like a long hallway where the laundry area is, and we are trying to maximise the space there.

I have had my LG washer and dryer (the smallest capacity of their three main choices) for about 6 months and I love them! The price was awesome, the water savings is sweet, and LG just rocks.
Cheers!

1: True, much less water and half the detergent

2: Yes and no. Mine doesn't seem to clean quite as well, but still does and adequate job.

3: Mine do come out dryer, but not as much as they lead you to believe.

4:They save a lot of energy. I was skeptical so hooked up the kill-o-watt and my LG uses next to no electricity. Serious savings here.

I just recently switched and I like it, but it does NOT clean as well. The biggest plus I noticed was how QUIET the thing is, much less noise than the top loaders. If you can afford to spend twice as much they are prolly worth it. The sticker on my LG was 899, but I got a free 4 year service agreement and a total of $200 back in gift cards/rebates. Delivery and set up was free too, handy for the basement steps.
