So here is the deal my computer is on its last legs HD is going cd drive just died etc, the parts in it are anywhere from 3-7 years old and i have decided to replace the whole thing and salvage nothing. Get a fresh start. I was a computer tech have experiance overclocking CPU's and video cards however i have been out of the loop for 3 years and need some help. I dont plan to OC at least not right now, the new comp needs to be faster than my old one after all id like to call this a upgrade, budget is 800 USD. My old comp specs are as follows

MSI K7T Mobo W/ AMD 1700+
1GB SD ram
20GB 7200rpm HD
Geforce 2 Ti 300(i think, its got 128MB of ram and i know its a GF2)

For my new system i was thinking something like this:

AMD 64 3200+
MSI K8N Neo 4 Plat mobo
1GB ram(would 2 512 sticks be better or one 1GB?)
200-300GB SATA HD
Video(NO CLUE, need some help on this one there is so many options)
Case(No idea here either)
PSU(Good one want it to last 5-7 years, open to ideas)

It doesnt need to kick all ass just mostly work related word proccessing web surfing but needs to have the balls to play games on occasion. Also will do some minor photo work and video conversion/encodeing. Thanks for any help guys.

your new system setup looks fine.

video - 7600GT.
psu - fortron 450W or higher psu
case - thats your thing. hehe...
ram - 2GBs is cheap nowadays. get it in a 2x1GB configuration. if its too expensive, just get 2x512MB for 1GB.
cpu - some people might say go dual-core, but its really up to you if you just plan on web surfing and occasional gaming.
mobo - thats fine.
hd - thats fine.

and im sure that people will say "go the AM2 route" or "wait for core 2 duo/conroe". thats really up to you. i would stick around for intels core 2 duo. it looks very promising. but if you cant hold off for another month or two, go either socket 939 or AM2.

Prices are going down. I would wait for the rush to sell off 'old' stock.
The new AM2 and Conroe will definitely affect everybody's prices. The buyer will finally get some great deals. Its a buyer's market. Just wait.
