Did you even read my post?
Oh you need to cart the family around. Early 90's 300zx NA 2+2 then is exactly what you need.

For those that haven't noticed, a Civic ISN'T roomy. If you think a Civic is roomy, did you used to drive a lawnmower?

Best bang for your buck.....

Grand Prix, Buick Regal, Chevy Impala.

Those 3 cars are very good, IF TAKEN CARE OF. When buying a used car, the last owner is more inportant then the name. Try to find one of those cars with a 3.8L motor. Decent gas milage and very reliable.

I see lots of the 3.4L V6's... are those not as reliable as the 3.8?

The DOHC 3.4L is the older motor. Its not really unreliable persay, BUT liek the dodge intrepid etc.. it has a very $$$ timing belt, water pump service. Not easy to really work on, etc...

The 3.1L, 3.8 are better around town motors. The 3.4L is a High reving motor, not a good choice for a family car IMO.
Now there are some 3.4L OHV motors, same as a 3.1L juts bigger. Those are ok, but pass on the DOHC ones.

Umm, you mean the 3.8l right?

??? NO.
The 3.8 has never been DOHC, only one that was like that was the special 3.4L DOHC. There has been a Pushrod (OHV) 3.4L, with a 2.8, and 3.1. The 3.8 is the option motor

My dad found a '96 Intrepid for $4200... has between 60 and 70k miles on it... been reading about it online and apparently there's tons of problems with it. Engine stalls while driving down the road, rack and pinion is junk, transmission slips, shocks are junk, brake rotors wear out... good price on the car, but I'm worried about the reliability of it. There's also some people that say they have over 150k miles on their's and haven't had any problems. Anyone have any Intrepid experiences they'd like to share?

I meant that the OHV GM 3800 Series II V6 is the older but more reliable. That is the one powering the GP, Monte Carlo and Buick.
Maybe we just misunder stood each other.
Basically a car with the 3800 V6 is a good choice. Buick or Olds would fit just fine and they are comfortable and reliable. On top of that they easily get 22/29 mileage.
