The new Logitech G5 is quite nice as well (new one has forward and back buttons which was one of the biggest appeals of the MX518 because the original G5 had only the back button). It has the notoriously ridiculous weight cartridge, but if you load it with the heaviest weights, you get a very substantial mouse (or you can leave it empty for something very light). I think it is superior than the 518 in all respects.

That's another one I was looking at. It looks like it has a tilt wheel, which I don't think the 518 has. It has adjustable sensitivity, which is a feature I'd never use. The 518 has +/- buttons that presumably are intended to control volume (or whatever else you want), but the +/- buttons on the G5 look like they're dedicated to the adjustable sensitivity. Since I don't want to adjust the sensitivity on the fly, can I re-map those buttons to whatever I want?

The +/- buttons on the 518 control sensitivity as well. I own both mice (new G5 and 518). The G5 has a textured surface, weight cartridges, visual representation of mouse sensitivity, and horizontal tilting. It is also a laser mouse.

Been using the VX Revolution for a few days now. It's great with the exception that the middle mouse button (the wheel) is incredibly difficult to use precisely. Nearly every time I press it, it scrolls up or down one line. I've tried pressing it from different angles, and nothing seems to work. Maybe I'll figure it out, I don't know. Right now it's pretty much unusable. I've mapped the "search" button to middle click as a backup, because sometimes I'll try 4, 5 times or more and not be able to middle-click the link I'm trying to click.

Yah middle-click is hard, now that I think about it. I don't use it. Totally forget it was even there, lol. I didn't really use it on my other mice tho, I can't think of any that were really "easy" to push down without really thinking about it.

I don't think that it is you, I think that it is a problem with the scroll wheel. I have never had a problem middle clicking on any mouse, not even a VX Revolution (I have used 4 of them now, my original, my replacement, my friend's and my mother's). If you bought it from a brick and mortar, you might want to try to return and replace it.

I have been running into a recent problem on my VX where a left click sometimes registers as a double click. It seems to happen more frequently in Windows but I am not sure why. Neither of them is running the Logitech software since I prefer to use default settings rather than try to adjust the settings for scrolling in every individual application. The only thing I would like is if the side scrolling were faster in Quicktime or VLC but not so much that I would want to fiddle with every other setting.

I only use it for opening links in a new tab... which I do a lot. I reduced the scroll speed significantly and turned up scroll acceleration, and that seemed to help some.

The bottom of the line Logitech mice I'm used to using have a real solid click in the wheel, and it's very easy to middle click. It's a lot more difficult to scroll quickly though. The VX Revolution has a really loose wheel (even with the switch in the position that makes it click), and it's really easy to accidentally scroll it. I may get used to it. I hope I do, otherwise I love the mouse.

I'll try using USB OverdriveX and see if that helps.
