I have been having a lot of trouble with the high speed internet serviee of the TV cable and so I'm going back to my DSL service with the phone company (Qwest). Can anyone recommend a good reliable DSL modem. I have two computers networked via a Netgear RP614 v3 router. Thanks

Yeah, generally if you sign an annual contract, they throw in a modem with maybe a higher cost if you need the router function too (for other networks in the house). Most DSL modems provide the protocol conversion from DSL to ethernet 100 (connects to ethernet or USB). I'm only paying $15. a month and got a modem/router free.

I have comcast and they let you rent, buy from them, or buy on your own... I think i ended up buying mine from best buy. got the same one they provide. you could ask them which modem they use/recommend...

A friend of mine lives way out in the country and could finally get DSL.
The company offered only the Actiontec Wireless DSL Gateway.
They told her she could use another modem, but they couldn't offer any tech support if she used one.
Long story, short... The company had numerous problems with service and changed everyone over to a different modem/gateway.

I've had good luck w/ Efficient Networks speed stream series of modems, the last one I used was a 5100 but they work well for Adsl up to 6mbit

Speedstream series is what SBC/AT&T provide to their customers, often free after rebate.

I have a 5100 model myself and it has worked well without issue.
