Need a modem

I need to buy a new cable modem......the one i currently have is a Toshiba 2200 and it has worked fine for last 6 months, but i have been having intermittant signal loss over the last couple weeks and the tech's have checked everything and even added all new line to the house and inside the house. All of that is good. THe only thing left is the modem.

What do you feel is the best, touble free, most reliable modem to buy? I been looking at the Motorola Surfboard 5100 or their newest series the 5120. But, could you give me any input on this modem ?

I have a Toshiba PCX 1100 for several years now. I think it's DOCSIS 1.0. Would going to a newer DOCSIS 2.0 modem make any difference.

Also I have been using Comcast Cable and before that @home (through Comcast). Is there anyway to get the "new activation" rebate on a new modem w/o dropping and restarting (not sure how long I would have to wait?
