Need a Mobo that supports SDRAM, and proc up to 3.2 ghz

(i assume you mean non-DDR)

Well, my friend has 512 mb of sdram, and he doesn't want to buy ddr ram, but he only wants a new mobo and processor. What should he do? He wants a 3.2 processor, and what mobo should go with it that supports sdram.?

I assume you mean he wants a P4 3.2Ghz. I don't know of any motherboard that supports non-DDR SDRAM and a 3.2Ghz CPU. Besides that P4 would be so chocked for memory bandwith it would perform horribly. There's a reason this type of board does not exist.

Tell him to not be cheap. For like 50 bucks he could grab 256 mb of ram, and it would outpreform his 512 of SD.

[Aside: DDR RAM is SDRAM. SDRAM is Synchronous Dynamic RAM, which nearly all memory has been for many years. SDRAM replaced EDO RAM starting in 1996.]

They won't exist. P4's were bad enough when they ran on PC2100 that I doubt any board maker would dare put SRD . If you remember, the P4's took a huge performance hit when you took away RDRAM. Dropping back to PC100 or PC133 RAM would probably make the system perform worse overall than a PIII system.

I suggest picking up an AMD board and processor. Something like the BioStar M7VKS which has both SDR and DDR banks.

if he can afford a 3.2 tell him to get a 2.8 and spend the rest on the rest of the system. For many people the CPU speed is the last thing they should really be looking at unless its a Celeron or something... memory speed and amount as well as HDD speed are much more important for the everyday average person than a fast CPU. tell him to get a better motherboard and memory rather than just CPU esspecially since its impossible lol.

lol quick answer NO. If he wants to keep his 512mb that badly he'll have to go to an older generation motherboard like an AMD760 or an i815 for intel. In that case, they don't support anywhere near 3.2ghz processors. Don't recommend it tho. Waste of money.
